Sticky: Day 17 – Why Use an Autoresponder?

Day 17 – An Autoresponder is My Silent Sales Partner.  What do I mean by that?

If you are serious about doing business online, then an autoresponder is a critical part of your online tool kit.  In my opinion, to effectively do business online, to market any product and make sales, you need a four things that are non-negotiable.  Those four mus haves are a domain name, website, product fulfillment, and an autoresponder.

What Is An Autoresponder?

An autoresponder is 3rd party email service. But not quite like a Gmail or Yahoo email account.  Instead an autoresponder is used to maintain optin email addresses and then to send email, your email, to those list of emails.  I use and recommend Aweber autoresponder.

The beautiful thing about an autoresponder, is that you can not only send out broadcast emails, just you do when you prepare and send an email to several people, but you can preload the autoresponder with several email messages, that will be sent out automatically.  On a schedule.  Without you doing anything.

Confused?

Here is how it works.  A person signs up to get something from you in an optin form on your website.  They give up their name and email address in exchange for something of value that you are giving away.

After their subscription is confirmed (which is best practice by the way), the the autoresponder sends them your first message, which is usually a welcome and includes another link to your wonderful freebie that you are giving away.

And then something wondrous occurs over the next several days or weeks.

On the next day (or the schedule you setup) your new subscriber, gets another email from you.  And a day or so later, another email. And another.  And another.

And these emails can and should contain more great content from you.  And promotion links to your products or affiliate links to recommended products that you know, use, and love.

And the beautiful thing is, you are not personally sending these emails.  These emails are all going out automatically, on a pre-arranged schedule, while you are sleeping or on vacation or sipping an adult beverage with a little umbrella in it on a white sandy beach.

You can still send broadcast emails when something new hits your desk.

But the power of the autoresponder is in the built-in ability to systematically and automatically, help your new subscriber to stay in touch with you.

Simple Unsubscribes

People come and go. People sign up for something, then want off your email list.  Sometimes immediately.  Sometimes after days or weeks. And of course some people LOVE you and never unsubscribe.

Unsubscribes are just a fact of doing business online.

And the power of an autoresponder, is that the subscriber is in control of their subscription options.  They can at anytime click a link, which again is best practice at the bottom of each email, and click one more link or radio button, and they are unsubscribed.

Done.

You shouldn’t have people sending you emails asking to unsubscribe. They want off, they click, they are off.  Simple.

And you want it simple.  You don’t want to keep people on your list who don’t want to hear from you.

Conclusion

If you have a website and you aren’t building a list of customers or leads, then you are missing out on the power of automating your online business.

And missing out on sales.

My advice is to get an autoresponder such as Aweber and start building your list today.
