Day 3 – My WordPress Blog is My Home

Day 3 – My hosted WordPress blog is my home on the internet.  It is brand central.  The challenge for today is to get a website and autoresponder such as Aweber up and going.  Which I already have done.

I currently use a HostGator  reseller account as my webhost, and Aweber for my autoresponder service.  I used to recommend HostGator, but with their acquisition two years ago by Endurance International Group (EIG), the level and quality of service is not what it used to be.  I have recommended InmotionHosting and LiquidWeb Hosting to clients, and for WordPress only sites, WPEngine. I have also heard good things about Site5 from folks involved with my local Bend Web Marketing meetup group, who use Site5 to host client’s websites. With Site5 if you want a reseller or VPS account, you can actually choose the physical location of the server,  which is actually pretty cool because during development and maintenance, you have a lot less latency with a server located more locally.

I cannot say enough good things about Aweber.  I have had an account with them for a number of years, and they have been consistent and reliable. I have seen other marketers jump ship and move to GetResponse, and their new landing page creation which is built into the software, is pretty awesome.  But at this point, I need to concentrate and focus on just one autoresponder.

If you are looking for recommendation for hosting and just want to host a single website or two, then you cannot go wrong with BlueHost which currently starts at $3.95 per month. But if you have several websites, you need to sign up for either a reseller account or VPS, and you should take a look at StormVPS or a reseller account with Bluehost or Site5. I will discuss this in another post the serious pitfalls and security vulnerabilities that you open you and your website to when you host several websites, especially WordPress websites, on a single shared hosting account.

In summary, my online presence, this website, consists of a webhost with HostGator, website running WordPress, and an autoresponder using Aweber.
